Mould in wind turbines

Protox has a wide product range for cleaning, preventing and sealing mould in buildings, structures and foundations.

We have learned that mould in wind turbines is a growing problem that can have serious consequences for both the structure and efficiency of wind turbines.

Here are some of the classic challenges with mould in wind turbines:

  1. Environmental conditions: Wind turbines are often located in humid and windy areas, creating ideal conditions for mould. Humidity and condensation can accumulate in enclosed spaces, especially in the nacelle (generator housing).
  2. Structural damage: Acid formed by mould can attack materials such as wood, insulation and other organic components in wind turbines. This can lead to deterioration of the materials and ultimately structural damage.
  3. Efficiency reduction: The acid formed by mould is metal corrosive and can affect electrical components and lead to short circuits or breakdowns, reducing wind turbine efficiency and increasing maintenance costs.
  4. Health risks: For technicians and maintenance staff, mould can pose a health risk as spores can cause allergies, asthma and other respiratory problems.

Mould remediation and prevention

Protox are experts in professional mould remediation. In close collaboration with a wind turbine service advisor, we provide guidance on the choice of products and methods for cleaning and preventing mould.
