Use Class 2 relates to situations where:
The timber or timber-based product is inside a construction and not exposed to weather and wetting.
2) Infestation by fungi or wood-destroying fungi is insignificant and always unintended. This could include joists, under floorboards, in skirting boards, cavities, and other surfaces where humans do not immediately come into contact with the treated surface.

PROTOX products in use class 2
Use Class 2 relates to situations where:
The timber-based product is under cover and not exposed to the weather (especially rain and driving rain), and where occasional – but not persistent – wetting may occur.
Water condensation may occur on the surface of wood-based products. This can affect all types of timber in a construction that is under a roof or sheltered from wind and weather, but where there is a risk of re-wetting, e.g. due to cold bridges, pipes, and condensation with changing temperatures (roof constructions).
It is the user/craftsman who decides whether there is a risk of re-wetting at the time the product is applied.

PROTOX products in use class 3
Usage class 3 relates to situations where:
The wood or wood-based product is above ground and exposed to the weather (especially rain).
Infestation by wood-damaging fungi and wood-destroying fungi is possible.
The products may be used on all types of outdoor wood not in direct contact with soil or water, e.g. lakes, streams, watercourses or the sea.
There is a wide range of use cases, and where relevant, use class 3 can be divided into two subclasses, use class 3.1 and use class 3.2.
Subclass 3.1
In this situation, the wood and wood-based product will not remain wet for long periods. Water will not accumulate.
Subclass 3.2
In this situation, wood or wood-based products will remain wet for long periods. Water can accumulate, for example, standing water, puddles.
