Cleaning movable property is always a challenge. If it is a question of "hard" surfaces, then the problem is not so great, as they can usually withstand washing and wiping with a little of each. Likewise, many textiles can withstand being washed, but when we come to upholstered furniture, there are challenges both with smell and perhaps also with mould.
Mold is difficult to remove in depth
If there is mold growth, our position is always that you should discard the upholstered furniture, as there is no method that can remove growth "in depth". And since the padding, viewed from the mold's side, is nicely porous and accessible, there will always be some degree of growth in depth if growth is seen on the surface.
You may be able to remove the superficial growth, but trying to remove the deep growth will in the vast majority of cases at best result in you being left with a dead mold in the upholstery. And regardless of whether the mold is alive or dead, a person allergic to mold will experience exactly the same symptoms.
A product that does not bleach upholstered furniture
In addition to mould, you often find that upholstered furniture smells, and that the task is not to remove mould, but only to clean up the smell.
For many years, we have worked with chlorine dioxide as an active substance, and in a number of cases, a treatment with chlorine dioxide in the form of ProtoxAbScent be an offer for a solution to such an odor problem. The advantage of chlorine dioxide is that when using ProtoxAbScent, the chlorine dioxide gas penetrates through the upholstery and removes the smell in depth, but the disadvantage is that the treatment takes a relatively long time.
Chlorine dioxide, in the form of ProtoxHysan cannot be recommended on upholstered furniture, as the chlorine dioxide solution can cause colored textiles to fade – all of you who wear black work clothes and who work with ProtoxHysan have discovered this for yourself.
We have therefore long been looking for a product that can be used directly on colored textiles without any problems, and are now ready with ProtoxOdourfree. ProtoxLugtfri is based on bacterial cultures and enzymes and of course does NOT contain perfume or other odorous substances.
ProtoxLugtfri is intended to be sprayed directly on the smelly surfaces, such as dog and cat urine, vomit etc. And unlike chlorine dioxide (ProtoxHysan), ProtoxLugtfri does not bleach.
If it is a question of odorous substances that have penetrated far into the upholstery, such as tobacco smoke, the smell of fire etc., it is recommended to combine the "surface" remediation with ProtoxLugtfri with an in-depth odor remediation with chlorine dioxide in gaseous form (ProtoxAbScent).
