ProClean - Test for proteins
ProClean is a test for egg white substances or proteins. Because mould contains protein, the ProClean test can indicate whether mould (or other proteins) are present in the tested area. If the test is negative, you can be sure that there is no mould in the tested area.
Because the ProClean test is not specific to mould, it can give false positive results. These results can also indicate the presence of bacterial growth, algae growth or other proteinaceous material. The ProClean test is therefore best used as a guideline test and as a before-and-after test when mould growth is detected.
The test is widely used for self-monitoring in the food industry and can be performed as early as 10-15 minutes after rinsing with ProtoxHysan.
The benefits of ProClean:
- Cheap
- Quick answer
- No lab or expensive equipment required
- Can be used for self-inspection after work
- Can be used as a sanitisation control
Pay attention to:
ProClean is NOT a mould test, but a protein test. The test reacts to all types of protein and does not specifically test for mould. It is also not particularly sensitive to mould spores.
Storage
Store in a cool place (2-25°C), expiry date is printed on the test pen.

Storage
- Clear an area of 10 x 10 cm where you want to perform the test
- Pull the swab out of the holster by removing the lid
- Swab the surface by rubbing the swab on the surface in a criss-cross pattern repeatedly. If the swab becomes dirty, repeat the process from step 1
- Put the swab back in the holster and secure the lid
- Break the pipette at the top and press the liquid into the casing
- Shake gently
- The test gives a clear colour reaction after 5 minutes, which must be read within 10 minutes of the test being performed.
The ProClean test gives a clear violet colour reaction if foreign egg white substances (protein) are present in the test area. If the area is cleaned well enough, the test shows a clear, light green colour.
ATTENTION! It is important that the area is thoroughly rinsed/dried prior to the test to remove as many dead particles as possible. These cannot be measured with ProClean.
