Valve impregnation
- When surface treatment is not enough

When impregnating wooden structures, it can be difficult to ensure that the impregnating agent penetrates far enough into the wood with a surface treatment. Instead, you can use preservative valves to get the preservative all the way into the wood.

When to use impregnation valves?

When you need to prevent or control fungal and insect infestations in woodwork, it's a good idea to plan a strategy for how best to do the job. In that strategy, you need to consider how best to get the product to penetrate the wood well enough to have the desired effect.

Valve waterproofing can help here if, for example:

  • The woodwork is surface treated
  • The wooden structure is very large
  • It is not possible to apply the product on all sides of the tree

If the surface is treated with a coating, the impregnation agent cannot penetrate unless the surface is completely cleaned of the coating. In large or inaccessible wooden structures, it can also be difficult to achieve sufficient coverage to get the desired effect of the impregnation. Here, impregnation valves ensure that the impregnation agent reaches the core of the wood and impregnates from the inside out.

How do you use impregnation valves?

The steps on how to use impregnation valves are straightforward. Just follow the instructions here and you'll be ready for first and repeat treatments in no time.

You'll need:

  • Drilling machine
  • Hammer
  • Valves
  • Wagner W180 airless spray gun type airless spray gun

How to valve impregnate:

  • Drill holes in the wood in the same diameter as the selected valve. The holes can be drilled down to 10-15 centimeters distance and drill until they are 12 mm from the opposite side.
  • Place the plastic valve in the drill hole and hit it with a hammer.
  • Pump now ProtoxSvamp or ProtoxInsekt into the wood using the special transition hose attached to the spray gun. The injection pressure should be 5-10 bar with the highest pressure in new wood. A non-return valve prevents the preservative from running out of the valve and the high pressure ensures a good distribution of the preservative in the wood.

We recommend that you treat at least 2 times (preferably more) 12-24 hours apart.

After treatment, leave the valve in the wood so it can be used for later finishing.
