ProClean - Test for proteins
ProClean is a test for egg white substances or proteins. Because mold contains protein, the ProClean test can indicate if mold (or other proteins) are present in the tested area. If the sample is negative, you can be sure that there is no mold in the tested area.
Because the ProClean test is not specific to mold, it can give false positive results. These results can also indicate the presence of bacterial growth, algae growth or other proteinaceous material. The ProClean test is therefore best used as a guideline test and as a before-and-after test when mold growth is detected.
The test is widely used for self-monitoring in the food industry and can be performed as early as 10-15 minutes after washing with ProtoxHysan.
The benefits of ProClean:
- Cheap
- Quick answer
- No lab or expensive equipment required
- Can be used for self-checking after finishing work
- Can be used as a control of cleaning
Be aware:
ProClean is NOT a mold test, but a protein test. The test reacts to all types of protein and does not specifically test for mold. It is also not very sensitive to mold spores.
Storage
Store in a cool place (2-25°C), expiration date is printed on the test pen.

Storage
- Clear a 10 x 10 cm area where you want to perform the test
- Pull the swab out of the holster by removing the lid
- Swab the surface by rubbing the swab on the surface in a criss-cross pattern repeatedly. If the swab becomes dirty, repeat the process from step 1
- Insert the swab back into the holster and secure the lid
- Break the pipette at the top and press the liquid into the casing
- Shake gently
- The test provides a clear color reaction after 5 minutes, which must be read within 10 minutes of the test being performed.
The ProClean test gives a clear violet color reaction if foreign egg white substances (protein) are present in the test area. If the area is cleaned well enough, the test shows a clear, light green color.
ATTENTION! It is important that the area is thoroughly rinsed/dried prior to the test to remove as many dead particles as possible. These cannot be measured with ProClean.
