Preventing wood destroying insects

How to recognize wood-boring insects:

Wood-boring or wood-decaying insects are found in woodwork - both new and old.

Infestations of wood-boring insects are often detected by the round or oval drill holes that the insects make in the surface of the wood. The size of the holes can vary from 1-5 mm. The boreholes appear when the insect larva has grown into an adult insect and gnaws its way out through the surface of the wood. This is why sometimes there are also sprinkles of drilling flour from the holes.

The degradation occurs when the caterpillar gnaws its way through the wood and creates caterpillar tunnels. Depending on the type and size, the larvae can live in the tree for several years and cause anything from minor to major damage.
